In response to the December 24 declaration by Chief Minister Sabah Shafie as an additional Christmas public holiday in Sabah, Sarawak’s Chief Minister also responded to Sarawak’s call for the move to be taken.
Chief Minister Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg said on Dec 14 at BAU that the state government may consider declaring an additional day as a public holiday to celebrate Christmas as long as there is a vacancy in the gazette for another public holiday of Sarawak.
CM Sarawak said he will look into the gazette to see if there is any spare holiday in the gazette as an additional public holiday for Christmas during the launch of the Blueprint development programme for Bau district in Sarawak.
However, if there are no spare holidays, we can discuss but decision can’t be made right now because the GPS government is subject to the rule of law of Sarawak. We will look at our law. If there is a spare, then we can declare the extra day as an additional Christmas holiday. Let’s wait for the good news to be announced later since Christmas is also celebrated by Sarawakians of other faiths, not just by the Christians only in Sarawak.
