Viral Lion Statue in Miri Bulatan Park
A lion statue near a children’s playground by an artificial lake has sparked controversy and jokes on social media due to its unusual repainting. After being repainted on November 23, the statue initially became known for its “white eyes,” drawing comparisons to a “stunned buffalo” statue in Serian. Both gained nationwide attention online, significantly increasing their local visibility.
Following public criticism of the first repaint, authorities attempted a second round of painting. However, this time the lion’s eyes and toes were painted completely black, making the statue appear even more comical. So cool!
The lion statue, donated by the Miri Central Lions Club, was originally built on October 8, 1993, making it over 31 years old.
