Star Cineplex commenced its operation at Merdeka Mall on 20th of May 2011, moving from Bintang Plaza Miri. Rumour said that it is a new cinema, but using the same old management including the chairs. At least, Mirians still have the option to watch many of the new movies release instead of missing them out.
