Catching Bubuk now at Lutong Miri City

Catching Bubuk at Lutong Beach, Miri

Every year, during the bubuk (krill) season, local fishermen and residents gather at Lutong Beach in Miri to catch these tiny shrimp. Using fine nets, they scoop up the fresh bubuk from the shallow waters, often during early mornings when the tide is favorable. The freshly caught krill is then used to make belacan (shrimp paste) or cincalok (fermented shrimp), both of which are essential ingredients in Malaysian cuisine. This traditional activity not only supports the local seafood industry but also brings the community together in a cultural and economic tradition passed down through generations.
