The 15th Miri City Christmas Parade, jointly organized by the Miri City Council and 15 churches in Miri, will take place on Saturday, December 7, at 5 PM in the Miri City Fan. The event’s guest of honor will be the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari. Around 40,000 people are expected to attend this year’s Miri City Christmas Parade.
The parade, now in its 15th year, is jointly organized by Miri City Council (MCC) and Miri’s churches and will follow the theme “Jesus Christ, the Life and Light of All People”.
Various performances have been planned, including praise and worship, singing, dancing, and a Christmas concert from participating churches. There will also be a special appearance by Sarawakian artist Melissa Francis. Invitations have been extended to Miri’s sister cities, including La Trinidad in the Philippines, Singkawang City in Indonesia, and Gochang-gun in South Korea, to encourage broader participation in this signature Miri event.
Mayor Yii reminded road users to plan ahead due to road closures for the parade, which will start at Miri City Fan and proceed along Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Brooke, Jalan Kingsway, Jalan Puchong, Jalan Padang, Jalan Melayu, Jalan Mohkoda Gampar, Jalan Cina, Jalan Bendahara, Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan South Yu Seng, Jalan Merpati, and Jalan Kipas, before returning to Miri City Fan.
About Miri City Christmas Parade:
The parade was initially conceived by former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan to encourage unity under the 1Malaysia concept. “The goal was to strengthen ties between Christians and other communities in Miri. This year’s theme, inspired by John 1:4, ‘In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind,’ highlights harmony among Miri’s multicultural community.
