Nearly 8,000 Stores in Malaysia to Stop Using Plastic Bags

Nearly 8,000 Stores in Malaysia to Stop Using Plastic Bags from October 1 (including Miri).

Starting October 1, 16 major companies with a combined 7,601 stores will no longer provide single-use plastic bags, aiming to reduce 200 million plastic bags. Shoppers will need to bring their own reusable bags, as supermarkets, grocery stores, and department stores will stop offering plastic bags, whether free or for purchase. Malaysia’s Housing and Local Government Minister, Nga Kor Ming, announced that 17 supermarket chains and 3 retail associations are backing this initiative to reduce plastic waste and encourage consumers to adopt reusable bags.

The participating stores include 7-Eleven, 99 Speed Mart, AEON Big, AEON, Econsave, Giant, Cold Storage, Mercato, Guardian, KK Mart, Lotus, Lulu, Mydin, TF-Value Mart, The Store, Watsons, emart24, and NSK Trade City.
