The Malaysia RM20 banknote was introduced in year 1982, but discontinued in year 1995. Bank Negara Malaysia re-introduced the RM20 banknote in July 2012 after a 16-year hiatus.
As part of Malaysian banknotes new design, you will see ontwo of the most famous species of sea turtles endemic to Malaysian waters printed on the reverse side of new RM20 banknote, the Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) and Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) respectively.
It is hope that the EM20 note can function as an intermediary denomination to bridge the value gap between RM10 and RM50 as well as for greater convenience in making payments in the market today.
