Sarawak is Launching Its own Airlines

Sarawak is making history by launching its own airline. The official signing ceremony is scheduled for February 12.

Sarawak plans to acquire MAS Wings, a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group. This move is expected to mark a significant milestone in the state’s aviation industry.

Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim, announced this during a banquet for the 2025 Borneo Cross-Border Cycling event.

With the acquisition of MAS Wings, the Sarawak government will officially own its own airline. This achievement is expected to strengthen Sarawak’s aviation sector and expand its flight network to domestic and international destinations.

After the agreement is signed, detailed plans and changes will be introduced in phases. Developing an airline requires time and careful planning, making it a long-term effort rather than an immediate transformation.

All key decisions related to the acquisition will be made by Sarawak’s Premier, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari. On January 13, he announced that negotiations for acquiring MAS Wings had been successfully concluded. The official signing ceremony is expected to take place in February.

Currently, MAS Wings operates only a few aircraft. However, following the acquisition, major changes are expected, including a possible rebranding of the airline.
