It is heard that Sarawak has plans to build a new airport in Kuching. The exact location of the new Kuching International Airport has not yet been determined. The airport will be designed to accommodate both passenger and cargo flights.
Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg aims to develop Kuching Airport to match the standards of Doha’s Hamad International Airport.
He emphasizes the need for modern facilities, including advanced IT, to boost Sarawak’s economic development. Hamad Airport, known for its luxury amenities, serves as a model. Abang Johari also plans a deep-sea port in Kuching, aiming to make Sarawak a regional aviation and shipping hub.
A team of experts, possibly involved in Doha’s airport planning, has been appointed to oversee the projects. Discussions with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) are planned for potential collaboration.
