Sarawak to Officially Acquire MASwings Next Month

The signing date for the sale and purchase agreement of MASwings Airlines has been confirmed and is set for next month!

Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim, confirmed that the agreement will be signed next month, and he has already been notified of the exact date. Speaking at a press conference, Abdul Karim, who also serves as the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, revealed the news and reiterated Sarawak’s plans to launch its own airline this year.

“This year, we will roll out our airline project,” he said at the event.

He further disclosed that the sale and purchase agreement for MASwings Airlines will be signed next month, with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari specifically requesting him to set aside time to attend the significant event.

“The agreement will be signed next month. I already know the specific date. Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari has asked me to make time for this day, as it marks an important milestone in the acquisition of MASwings Airlines,” Abdul Karim stated.

With the formal signing of the agreement, the Sarawak government’s efforts to acquire MASwings Airlines are expected to come to fruition next month.

Earlier this month, Premier Abang Johari had revealed during the 2025 Sarawak Premier’s Keynote Address that the signing ceremony for the sale and purchase agreement would take place within a month, likely in Kuching.

The Sarawak government had originally planned to complete the acquisition of MASwings Airlines by December 2024. However, the agreement was delayed due to asset valuation issues.
