The Sarawak government is preparing for a second wave of floods expected between February 8 and 12, with Kuching, Sibu, Sarikei, Miri, and Mukah identified as high-risk areas. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas has directed all disaster response units to stay on high alert.
During the 2024-2025 monsoon season, Sarawak is expected to experience 4 to 6 cold fronts between November 2024 and March 2025. The state disaster forecast unit has been monitoring conditions since December 2023.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy rain and thunderstorms in multiple areas. Citizens should stay updated via MetMalaysia’s website, MyCuaca app, or hotline (1-300-22-1638) for the latest weather alerts.
All relevant agencies must stay vigilant and ensure their logistics and resources are well-prepared in anticipation of a potential second wave of flooding.
